Maybe the capture is done in the day time but the video is then made to look dark

Actually, I think I'd be correct in saying that a night time LIDAR collection would yeild more accurate datasets; this is due to less variation (less noise) in the returning points. However the camera itself would not perform quite as well in low lights. Its an amazing peice of kit see more here:

Re Nightime racing and the furtherconsideration of starting in the day and moving to the night thats all within reach using the technology. Obviously the 24 hour will require a team of drivers unless one of you can sit it out in one stint. Its just following the real situation of stopping in the pits and handing over to another virtual driver. Obviously all the team drivers dont have to be in the building. We are envisaging a good team would come from different time zones.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing how well this all works. I've always wanted to do a virtual 24-hour race, but to do it during an actual real-life race would certainly be amazing. Have to start getting in shape to be able to last a 2-hour stint (or even a double stint!). Concentration plus stamina.
Hmm... Just thought about what will happen if the real-life weather takes a turn. Will the software make some matching weather effects?
